Th Labour Relief Campaign was created in the wake of the floods that devastated Pakistan in August 2010. It brings together 8 organizations: Labour Party Pakistan (LPP), Labour Education Foundation (LEF), Center for the cancellation of the third world debt (CADTM), Women worker's helpline (WWHL), Progressive youth front (PYF), National trade union federation (NTUF), Kissan Raabta Committee (KRC), Pakistanis for Palestine (PaksForPal). Our campaign has two separate fronts, the relief work and a political campaign for the cancellation of Pakistan's debt in favor of the flood victims

Report: Relief work in Sindh, 2-Sept -2010

SLRC Immediate Flood Relief campaign  

 Sindh Labour Relief Committee (SLRC) in order to collect in-kind and cash donations in Karachi, Hub and other cities, and deliver it to people in relief camps and on roadsides in Karachi, Moro and in Hub.
In HUB Baluchistan it’s near about 70 Kilometer from Karachi. Hub is an industrial city of Baluchistan.
 So after flood swept the Baluchistan many internal displaced persons (IDPs) were move to different safe places of Baluchistan, Punjab, and Sindh. So that thousands of people were migrate to Hub industrial area and they are living different places of Government schools, dispensaries, semi Government and other. The immediate disastrous effects are on most poor and vulnerable strata of the society especially women and children, they have been most luckless to cope with the situation in term of health, easy access to assistance/help and safe mobility.

In Hub industrial area two places we have set up relief camps and we need immediate action in this area,
  1. One camp in Asmani Mor Industrial area
  2. Bhawani Charlie camp in Hub indusial area
In Asmani mor at least 16 families and at Bhawani Charlie’s at least 9 families so total members of these families 250.
Profile of IDPs in Hub Baluchistan
In Hub around 15000 thousand IDPs especially women, children’s, old age senior peoples. But SLRC adopted around 25 families where the concern families are living different areas of camps in Hub Baluchistan.
Where we adopted the camps there around 120 male /female children’s, 65 women and 65 male members of these IDPs.

Area of IDPs
The IDPs are from Tehshil & District Jacababad, Jafarabad Baluchistan. The IDPs families are agree based background. They are local growers and earned daily based and seasonal one. Some of them IDPs family members are doing job in factories of Hub industrial area Baluchistan.   

Number of IDPs

In camps around 25 families around 250 peoples in them women, children, male female, and old age senior people are in camps. In these IDPs 120 male /female children’s, 65 women and 65 male members of these IDPs.
Problems faced by IDPs
The main problems faced by IDPs are following under,
  1. not proper place for sleeping
  2. mosquito biting
  3. not available water
  4. medicines
  5. food (flour, sugar, clothing, other food items)
  6. no proper shelters

Current situation
In camps families are living together and mange their food and other needs by selling their livestock of milking (buffalos, sheep and Goats on so cheap price). So they use this money for their immediate needs. Now they are waiting for help from Government and other organization so now SLRC adopted these families in that camps. In these camps total members of IDPs,
  1. Children Male / female: 120   school going children
  2. women   :                       65     house wives, home based workers,
  3. male                               65     Peasants, factory workers, drivers, livestock grovers

What sort of immediate requirements
1. Food Items                         
·         sugar, rice, powder milk, tea bags, biscuits (Rusk), pulses (lentil), cooking oil, spices      
·         Medicines
·         pain killers, tables related with diarrhea, malaria, gastro, life saving drugs, water purification pills, vitamins tablet/syrup and skin related medicines    
·         Need assessment activity in different parts of flood effected area for further long time strategic plans for rehabilitation in fields of health, livelihood and shelter. 
·         Shelter Tent , mats ,  (chataiee) dasi mat,
          . water also need,
Note,:- 
Mr Dr Awab Alvi arranged, 200 bottles (6 litter bottle) of water for SLRC camps, 

we also need some Doctors, and nurses whose to visit the sites,a and check up the Kids, children s, some of pregnant women.

 Same camps of 30 families in Makli Thatta to day first consignment have been distribute for four days,(food items, ) and this camps is being adopted by SLRC. we will 2nd procedural visit to these camps,
